2024 Residential Trend: Brown Renaissance
Brown Renaissance
The global rise in the cost of living has pushed many to seek out moments of quiet luxury and reprieve in their own homes. Brown Renaissance is a more subtle trend shift from the stark whites and cool grey neutrals of recent years.
Designers can expect to see shades of chocolate and coffee becoming the new neutral within clients’ homes. Deep, rich browns are complementary to recent trends like biophilic design and Dark Academia, while lighter milky browns are making their transition from the runway to homes as latte decorating and quiet luxury become a prominent 2024/25 interior direction.
Designers are encouraged to bring this trend into life with tactile elements like textured carpets, heavy linens and natural finishings.
In 1stDibs' most recent Annual Survey, 21% of participants name dark brown/chocolate as the colour of the year and 36% of participants expect light brown/tan to be the most popular neutral.
Colour and Styling Considerations
Tactile
This trend is all about the tactile. Natural elements such as wood, stone, leather and textured carpet, velvet drapery and linen sofas all add depth to a space.
Colour Layering
Mix different shades of brown. Layer different shades of chocolates, espressos and latte, or to really embrace the trend, colour-drench a room with all-over browns to create a warm, cocoon-like experience.
Vintage is Back
Rather than buying new, look to source beautiful, quality vintage pieces to add authenticity to this trend.
Pair with handmade rugs or thrifted art pieces and finish with plants, dried foliage or florals.
