The Blue High Performance Training Centre, Auckland

"A key aspect of the Blues High Performance Training Facility was to recognise the Maori cultural importance of the site. Discussions were held with Ngati Whatua Orakei, where legends, stories and emotions were shared.These korero allowed us to add a third dimension to our design meaning.The striking building already had practical and functional elements, but now it had purpose, history and recognition.

This offered depth and meaning to the patterning, colour selection and placement of the carpet tiles and vinyl flooring.  A bespoke carpet pattern was created which interweaves from three different points of the building, representing the relationship of the building to three volcanic locations: Maungawhau/Mt Eden, Maungakiekie/One Tree Hill, Te Kopuke/Mt St Johns."  

Shaw Contract carpet tiles were used in two shades of blue (Color Frame Charming & Figment), black (Pacific Waimea Volcanic) and grey (Pacific Waimea Granite).  Tarkett Granit vinyl was used in the cafe, hydration station and physiotherapy rooms, with Granit Safe.T safety vinyl used in bathroom areas.
