Ihi Ora
Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand, Te Toka Tumai Auckland has expanded its mental health services with the relocation and extensive refurbishment of Ihi Ora, a mental health centre now situated near Auckland City Hospital. Designed by Jasmax, this 1,500-square-metre facility aims to create a safe and therapeutic environment that promotes wellbeing and cultural connection for clients and their whānau. Incorporating biophilic design principles, natural lighting and culturally considerate spaces, the facility enhances clients' recovery by providing a calming and open atmosphere. The purpose-built rooms and specialised flooring solutions ensure durability and resilience, reflecting Ihi Ora's commitment to equitable mental health support and compliance with Te Tiriti requirements.
Tōtara Haumaru – North Shore Hospital
Tōtara Haumaru (The Sheltering Tōtara) is New Zealand's newest hospital facility, the largest development at North Shore Hospital in 50 years. The new four-story regional healthcare hub is designed to focus on the needs of patients and their families. It integrates modern models of care and aims to enhance the experience of patients and visitors, welcoming them with a less clinical atmosphere than is often associated with healthcare settings. When selecting products, the design team chose the well-known and trusted healthcare vinyl ranges from Tarkett, the iQ collection and Primo products, featured in warm neutrals.
Jack’s Point Medical
Nestled in the scenic beauty of Queenstown, Jack’s Point Medical Centre has created a warm, welcoming environment for its patients, thanks to the stunning design by Forager Studio. The incorporation of natural oak tones and textures that reflect the surrounding mountains makes the space feel grounded and inviting. Jacobsen supplied a range of flooring solutions with antimicrobial properties and acoustic backing for a safe and calming healthcare space that prioritises the comfort and privacy of both patients and staff.
Starship Whiti Ora
Designed by TOA Architects, Whiti Ora is Starship Foundation’s recently renovated research and innovation centre. Located at 111 Grafton Road, the interior draws inspiration from a cultural narrative that was gifted to Starship by Dame Rangimārie Naida Glavish – a tale of the pīpīwharauroa bird who lays its eggs in the riroriro bird's nest, symbolising the care and nurturing that Starship provides to tamariki who are entrusted into their care.
Beyond Radiology, Silverdale
The new Beyond Radiology practice in Silverdale is the third of a nationwide roll-out designed by MA Studio. The interior of their Silverdale practice features our Aspecta Elemental XL LVT timber-look flooring and has set a precedent for style and design, with a warm and inviting environment that moves away from the traditional sterile medical atmosphere.
Wellington Regional Children's Hospital
In 2022, Wellington proudly opened the doors to its new $110 million children's hospital, Te Wao Nui. Designed by Studio Design + Architecture, this state-of-the-art facility brings together a comprehensive range of child health services under one roof, ensuring that young patients and their families have access to holistic care in a warm and welcoming environment.
Middlemore Mental Health Unit
The design of the acute mental health unit at Middlemore Hospital is aimed at establishing a welcoming and comforting environment. Tarkett heavy-traffic vinyl ranges and Shaw Contract commercial carpet tiles were selected to achieve the desired aesthetic and meet the quality standards for this setting. These products are also utilised across the entire hospital at Middlemore.
Hastings Health Centre, Hastings, Hawkes Bay
Hastings Health Centre aims to provide world-class, integrated primary health care for 30,000 patients and families, offering a range of services including urgent care, radiology, ultrasound, pharmacy, laboratory, dentist, physiotherapy, nursing suites, and consulting rooms. The space features bold colours for wayfinding and incorporates biophilic design elements for a closer connection to nature.
Shortland Health, Auckland
The project's design philosophy was centred around "Wellness in Design." Klein Architects sought to challenge traditional notions of sterile and impersonal medical centre waiting rooms. They focused on four main design concepts: health, happiness, sustainability, and purpose, all of which were central to their design.
